Good day, folks. We're back again, this time to offer a helping hand to the comic-book curious. I've gone ahead and taken the liberty of compiling a modest list of review sites for those looking to either dip a toe into the choppy waters of the comic world or take a massive leap of faith, cannonball style, right into the open maw. You're welcome:
No. 5 Bleeding Cool
First on the list is Bleeding Cool, which gets extra brownie points for having a cool name. The site covers comics, TV, film, and even wrestling, with its comic section being particularly impressive. While a little cluttered for my taste, the articles have eye-catching titles and visuals, providing not only informative coverage of select titles but also interesting opinions on the world of comics as a whole. As good a starting point as any.
No. 4 iFanboy
iFanboy comes in 4th spot, and beats out Bleeding Cool with a site more focused and dedicated to comic books. They also bring cool podcasts and a T-shirt store, too. On the downside, the retro look and feel may not strike a chord with everyone, and the site still feels slightly cluttered at first glance.
No. 3 ComicBook.com
Perhaps one of the more well-known websites on the list, ComicBook.com sits at the cool kids' table, shooting spitballs at the nerds and flirting with the cheerleader. To its credit, though, it presents an attractive website with some pretty good content. Again, it loses some points by focusing on movies, gaming, anime, etc., while presenting a somewhat thin comic book section. Not bad by any account, but not the best, to my mind.
No. 2 Major Spoilers
Major Spoilers impresses with a simplistic but effective site with good navigation and variety. From retro reviews and podcasts to an impressive comics portal. This site gives a little bit of everything while presenting itself with a tucked shirt and buttoned-up blazer.
And for our number one spot. Drum roll, please. DDDDRRRRRRRDRRRRRRRRDRDR...I don't know how to write a drum role.
No. 1 Comic Book Roundup
Comic Book Roundup secures the top spot with a great-looking site that focuses on one thing, and one thing only, comic reviews. Better still, it compares reviews from various critics, and also provides an impressive list of titles by publisher, introducing readers to worlds beyond Marvel and DC. If newcomers had to visit only one site on this list, then let it be this one.
Have I missed any other sites? Let me know in the comments. Happy reading, folks.
