Well, here we are again. I'm trying this one writing piece per day thing until I get bored and go on hiatus until the next Olympics. You may ask why write these when most eyes are glazed over from TikTok shorts and are unwilling to do an honest day's reading? Welp, I suppose writing is a therapeutic business, so let's just take this as our lotus pose for now and get on with it. Battle Beast is a cool little space romp starring a pissed-off lion who is desperate to be killed so that he'll be a little less pissed off. This series kind of hits like Saitama from One-Punch Man, if he were a little furrier and more deliberate with his approach to finding a worthy match.
Hang on a minute, though, we need a few sidekicks for this adventure to tick all the right boxes, and so our Battle Beast in question is joined by both a disgraced prince and an AI that is gifted with a robotic form. The former is eager to take his rightful place on a throne that was forcefully taken from a few nasty usurpers, and he positions himself as useful to our Beast for his ability to guide him to these worthy ass-kickers. Our robot friend, on the other hand, tags along to guide Mr. Lion to his doom at the hands of said worthy ass-kickers, whatever the cost (with friends like these, am I right?). Quite a team we've got here, folks, and they have their work cut out for them against the nasty duo of Colossus and Juggernaut....the ass-kickers I've already mentioned.
That is basically it, and I'm pleased to say that Battle Beast is a fine bit of reading if one finds the usual hero trope slightly tried and tired. Our hero has space for growth with his little friends there to no doubt show him that there is more to life than wishing for one's own death. That there is indeed the chance for heartfelt montages to be made with those who care for us, thus providing us a different escape from the fury boiling within like a pressure cooker waiting to explode. But let's hold off on the fuzzy possibilities for now. More blood is no doubt yet to be shed as Colossus reunites with his sister to potentially give Mr. Fuzzy exactly what he wants in issue 8. For if one mega entity cannot snuff this kitty, then maybe two can. Happy reading, folks :).
